After 38 years, Iraq joins UNESCO’s Executive Board

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday that Iraq has won membership in the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
This comes after 38 years of waiting, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The election of members of the Executive Board took place on Wednesday during the activities of the International Conference of UNESCO at its 42nd session in the French capital, Paris.
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, congratulated the Iraqi people, particularly academics and cultural elites, for winning a membership in the Executive Board of UNESCO.
“Iraq’s return to important international forums represents a natural entitlement for our beloved country, which has given the world knowledge, science, and culture in ancient and modern times,” Al-Sudani said via X, formerly Twitter.
The Iraqi Prime Minister added that the selection of Iraq for UNESCO’s Executive Board falls within the government’s policy to restore Iraq’s position in all international forums.
Al-Sudani also praised the representatives of Iraq for their efforts in securing this privilege.
