Air traffic at Erbil International Airport resumes after stoppage lasted for hours
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Air traffic has resumed at Erbil International Airport after a stoppage that lasted for hours, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported without unveiling any reasons.
“Flights have resumed at Erbil International Airport after a stoppage that lasted for hours,” the Director of the airport, Ahmed Hoshyar, told Iraqi media outlets.
A source at Baghdad International Airport revealed earlier on Monday that all flights to and from Erbil International Airport were stopped for hours, indicating that a security measure was being taken inside the airport.
A source in the Kurdistan region of Iraq told media outlets that flights were stopped at Erbil International Airport because a drone crossed into the airport’s airspace, with no official statement confirming the incident, Al-Arabiya News reported.
The source explained that the suspension will last until midnight, if not longer.
The same source added that a decision was made to suspend flights at Sulaymaniyah International Airport due to security reasons, without providing further details.
