 Al-Sudani confirms Iraq’s desire to establish strategic relationship with U.S.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister-designate, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, during his meeting with the United States Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, expressed on Monday Iraq’s desire to establish a strategic partnership with the United States, according to a press statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Al-Sudani stated that Iraq would like to enhance the Strategic Framework Agreement (SFA) between Iraq and the United States in its economic, educational, cultural, political and climate change aspects, the statement mentioned.

The SFA normalizes the U.S.-Iraqi relationship with strong economic, diplomatic, cultural, and security cooperation and serves as the foundation for a long-term bilateral relationship based on mutual goals.

Al-Sudani also indicated Baghdad’s desire to strengthen the cooperation with the United States in terms of security by providing support and advice to the Iraqi security forces to increase their capabilities.

The statement elaborated that Al-Sudani received Romanowski in Baghdad where both discussed the bilateral relations, the common interests between the two countries, ways to develop the mutual relations, and the importance of working to enhance security and stability in Iraq and the region during the next stage.

Romanowski expressed Washington’s support for the security, stability, prosperity, sovereignty and unity of Iraq.
