Al-Sudani: Soleimani’s assassination is attack on Iraq’s sovereignty
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, said that the assassination of the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Qasem Soleimani, by the United States is a flagrant attack on Iraq’s sovereignty, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
“The blood of the martyrs must not be in vain,” Al-Sudani stated in his speech during the official forum commemorating the third anniversary of the assassination of Soleimani, the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, and some of their companions.
“On January 3, 2020, we woke up on a tragic news and a dangerous development, which is the killing of Al-Muhandis, Soleimani and their companions in Iraq,” Al-Sudani said.
Al-Sudani confirmed that the attack carried out the United States is an act condemned by all international laws, and its repercussions could have threatened the security and stability of the entire region.
Al-Sudani also stressed that the act that led to the assassination of Soleimani does not respect the bilateral agreements and friendship between the two countries.
The U.S. army carried out a military operation in which Soleimani was assassinated near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
The operation, in which Al-Muhandis was also assassinated, led to an escalation of tension between the United States and Iran, which vowed strong revenge.
