Anbar governorate hit by earthquake
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced that its seismic observatories recorded on Sunday an earthquake measuring 3.3 degrees on the Richter scale, in Anbar governorate, in the western part of the country, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
The earthquake was recorded at 2:47 a.m. on Sunday, 86 kilometers northwest of Al-Rutba town, in Anbar governorate.
The Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology announced that the citizens in the area clearly felt the tremor, while no casualties or losses were reported.
On Saturday, the Iraqi government announced that two new earthquakes measuring 4.3 degrees on the Richter scale struck the northern governorates of Nineveh and Erbil, with no casualties or material losses reported.
These earthquakes follow a devastating earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on February 6. The aftershocks of the earthquake reached other countries in the region, and were felt by residents in Lebanon and Iraq.
The earthquake in Turkey and Syria caused severe damage to thousands of buildings, including schools, health care facilities and other public infrastructure such as roads, airports, ports, gas stations and power networks, and hundreds of aftershocks were recorded.
Since the devastating earthquake, thousands of aftershocks have occurred in Turkey and Syria, while Egypt and Iraq witnessed several aftershocks as well.
