 Ancient Civilizations Forum delegations visit ancient city of Babylon

Iraqi officials and delegations of Arab and foreign countries participating in the Ancient Civilizations Forum during their visit to the ancient city of Babylon.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Delegations of Arab and foreign countries participating in the Ancient Civilizations Forum held in Baghdad visited the archaeological sites in the ancient city of Babylon which stunned the world with its arts and its scientific, economic and social innovations.

Director of the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage (SBAH), Laith Majid Hussein, explained that SBAH received that participating delegations through ceremonies attended by Babylon Governor Wissam Al-Jabouri, Director of the Department of Investigation and Excavations Ali Obaid Shalgham, and Babylon’s inspector of antiquities and heritage.

Laith elaborated that the delegations visiting Babylon were briefed about the city’s gates, buildings, temples, historical theater, museum and other important archaeological monuments.

The delegations expressed their satisfaction with the visit of the great city and the great progress and prosperity it reached, Laith mentioned.  

Laith indicated that the visit of the delegations has a great importance and positive impact on archaeological tourism, as it lets the world know about the civilization of Mesopotamia and the important archaeological sites that were once centers of important civilization.

Shalgham clarified that both Arab and foreign delegations expressed their gratitude for providing the opportunity to visit the ancient city of Babylon, and to see closely the features of the Babylonian civilization, which constitutes the starting point for the development of laws, mathematics, engineering and medicine.

The Arab and foreign delegations visiting the ancient city of Babylon arrived on Sunday in Baghdad to attend the activities of the sixth edition of the Ancient Civilizations Forum, where delegations from Iraq, Egypt, Iran, China, Peru, Armenia, Bolivia, Greece and Italy participated.
