Associated gas utilization in Iraq jumps to 61%

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, inaugurated on Saturday the associated gas processing project with a production capacity of 300 million standard cubic feet per day in the Halfaya oilfield in Maysan governorate.
Al-Sudani revealed that the produced gas will be used as fuel to operate power plants and will stop gas imports, adding that gas production in Iraq rose from 2.97 billion cubic feet per day in 2022 to 3.1 billion cubic feet per day, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The Iraqi Prime Minister confirmed that the utilization of associated gas has increased from 50 percent to 61 percent, noting that efforts are ongoing to utilize all the gas produced in Iraq until gas flaring completely stops by 2028.
The project consists of two units, each producing 150 million cubic feet of gas, and will contribute to generating more than 1,200 megawatts of electricity in the southeastern Iraqi governorate.
In addition to maintaining a clean environment, the project also aims to produce liquefied gas with an initial capacity of 1,100 tons per day at the beginning of operation, increasing to 2,200 tons per day to meet Maysan’s consumption.
