Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Transport confirmed on Wednesday that the International Finance Corporation (IFC) reached the final stages of Baghdad International Airport’s development plan.
The information director at the Transport Ministry, Maytham Abdul-Safi, explained that the development plan for Baghdad International Airport is based on the anticipated number of travelers, noting that the IFC has reached the final phases of submitting the proposal, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Abdul-Safi said last month that the Iraqi Transport Minister, Razzaq Al-Saadawi, follows up with Baghdad International Airport management almost every day to inquire about the steps taken to offer services to travelers and to come up with immediate solutions for renovating and maintaining the airport.
A deal reached between Iraq and the IFC would facilitate the emergence of a competitive framework for further crucial infrastructure projects around the nation.
According to the agreement, the IFC will serve as the main deal counselor for a public-private partnership (PPP) to modernize Iraq’s largest international airport and bring its amenities and security up to par with global norms.
The project will enter the bidding stage to entice private investors and operators after receiving government permission.
The project also aligns with Iraq’s 2030 Vision for Sustainable Development, which aims to involve the private sector, diversify the economy, and lessen the reliance on oil revenues.
