Baghdad praises Hamas approval of ceasefire
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, confirmed on Wednesday that Hamas’s approval of a truce in Gaza is a responsible decision that has been taken in support of the interests of the Palestinian people.
Al-Sudani’s remarks took place during a phone call with the chairman of Hamas’s political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The Iraqi Prime Minister indicated that Iraq supports Hamas’s move, describing it as a step that would stop the suffering of the Palestinian people and a response to the efforts of Arab countries to stop the war in Gaza.
Al-Sudani called on the international community to uphold its obligations in stopping the aggression, particularly in light of the Israeli forces’ insistence on storming the Rafah crossing, resulting in a humanitarian crisis, and carrying out heinous crimes against civilians.
Haniyeh conveyed gratitude for the political positions and immediate humanitarian relief that the Iraqi people and government had extended to the residents stranded in Gaza.
Hamas accepted a cease-fire plan from Egypt and Qatar that called for the conclusion of Israel’s attack on Gaza and the release of Israeli captives captured in the enclave and Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli prisons.
