Baghdad, Qatar’s UrbaCon discuss setting up 2,100 megawatt power plant

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, announced on Sunday that the government is studying setting up a 2,100 megawatt power plant in Baiji in the northern governorate of Salah Al-Din.
The Iraqi Electricity Ministry mentioned that Fadel held a meeting with officials from Qatar’s UrbaCon, a Qatari-based international construction service company, to review the final details regarding the construction of a new 2,100 megawatt power plant, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Fadel expressed the ministry’s willingness to cooperate with Arab firms wishing to operate in Iraq to take advantage of the available investment opportunities provided by the Iraqi government.
The meeting addressed the details of the new power plant, which consists of six production units, each of which will generate 350 megawatts.
The Iraqi Minister of Electricity indicated that the new power plant will replace an older power plant that was completely destroyed during the war against ISIS.
According to Fadel, the power plant’s proximity to an oil refinery makes it easier to obtain the fuel required for its operation.
