Baghdad supports attempts to promote ceasefire in Gaza
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, confirmed on Tuesday that Iraq supports initiatives aiming to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Prime Minister’s remarks took place during his meeting with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, on the sidelines of their participation in the Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza conference held in Jordan, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The meeting addressed bilateral ties, the results of Al-Sudani’s recent visit to the United States, the developments in the region, and the repercussions of the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza.
Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s support for the prompt delivery of humanitarian supplies to the Palestinians besieged in Gaza, urging the United States to take a clear stance against Israeli aggression.
The Iraqi Prime Minister stated that the international community’s overall response to the tragedy in Gaza, including the number of casualties and the degree of devastation, as well as the continuous aggressive threats against Lebanon, which might escalate the conflict in the area, is ineffective.
The Iraqi Premier stated that the international community must accept responsibility for the genocide perpetrated by Israeli forces, which resulted in the displacement of 80 percent of the Gaza Strip’s population, leaving them without shelter, medical, humanitarian, and service resources.
Al-Sudani described the situation in the Gaza Strip as the worst catastrophe imaginable.
Blinken acknowledged the US administration’s appreciation for Iraq’s efforts to promote long-term regional peace and provide help to ease the Gaza Strip’s severe humanitarian situation.
