Baghdad to rearrange relations with UNAMI
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, discussed on Thursday the cabinet’s decision to reshape the future relationship with the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) during a meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
Al-Sudani explained that the decision was made after Iraq completed establishing strong constitutional institutions and fulfilled its international obligations, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The meeting took place on the sidelines of their participation in the 54th version of the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland.
The Iraqi Prime Minister reaffirmed that his country would continue to cooperate with the international organization to lessen the consequences of desertification, climate change, and water scarcity.
The meeting addressed the latest developments worldwide, the impact of the war between Israel and Hamas on regional and global stability, and the genocide being committed by the Israeli army against the Palestinian people.
Al-Sudani thanked Guterres for his efforts to halt the unfair attack on Gaza as well as his views in favor of the Palestinian cause.
The Iraqi Prime Minister indicated Iraq’s unwavering stance regarding the right of the Palestinian people to live in dignity on their land.
The UN Secretary General expressed his solidarity with the Palestinian people, noting that the United Nations will continue its efforts to end the war in Gaza and stop the suffering of helpless civilians.
