Caretaker Iranian FM to meet with top Iraqi officials
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Caretaker Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani arrived on Thursday in Baghdad in a visit aimed at promoting bilateral relations and discussing regional issues with top Iraqi officials.
Following his arrival, Kani paid tribute to the memorial statues of the Iranian Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, and the chief of staff of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, near Baghdad International Airport in Baghdad.
A source in the Iraqi government revealed that Kani plans to meet with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, Acting Parliament Speaker Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, President of the Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan, National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji, and other prominent politicians, according to Shafaq News.
Kani is also expected to hold discussions with officials in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, as he is scheduled to travel to the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, Erbil, on Friday, according to the source.
Kani was appointed as caretaker Foreign Minister after his predecessor, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, died in a helicopter accident with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi last month in northwestern Iran.
