CBI discusses developing technical program with IMF

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, discussed on Sunday Iraq’s need to develop a technical program with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Al-Alaq met with Georgieva in Washington on the sidelines of the IMF’s annual meetings, the statement elaborated.
The CBI Governor discussed Iraq’s need to develop a technical program that takes into account the country’s security and economic conditions.
Georgieva stated that she understands the situation in Iraq and the circumstances the country has been through, and supported Al-Alaq’s proposal to have a program to be a reference for economic policies between the two parties, the statement explained.
Al-Alaq also met with the Executive Director at the IMF, Mahmoud Mohieldin, and discussed issues related to financial stability in Iraq.
Mohieddin expressed the IMF’s interest in providing the necessary support to Iraq to accelerate the economic reform to gradually increase its non-oil exports.
The two sides discussed the importance of signing an agreement between Iraq and the IMF, where its content will be determined during the visit of the IMF team to Baghdad, the statement added.
The visit scheduled next month aims to organize the agenda of economic reform and financial performance programs, and the aspects where Iraq requests technical and advisory support.
