COI summons Justice Minister for abuse of power
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Federal Commission of Integrity (COI) issued an order on Wednesday to summon the current Minister of Justice, Khalid Shwani, for accusations of abusing the authority of his job, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
In addition to Shwani, the decision also includes the director of security clearances in the Ministry of Justice for abusing the authority of his job as well.
COI’s investigations department revealed that the decision to summon the two Iraqi officials was issued by the Karkh court specialized in looking into cases of integrity, INA reported.
The Karkh court issued the decision against the two officials because they obstructed the implementation of the decision of the court’s investigating judge in the case related to the food of prisoners and detainees, INA mentioned.
Additionally, the two officials refrained from providing the COI’s team with the required documents related to the case, INA added.
The Karkh court issued the decision based on the provisions of Article 329 of the Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969.
