Commission of Integrity issues 90 arrest warrants for officials

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Federal Commission of Integrity (COI) announced that it issued, last January, 90 arrest warrants and summons against current and former senior officials for involvement in different corruption cases, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

A statement issued by the Investigation Department of the COI mentioned that the Iraqi judiciary issued 90 arrest warrants and summons against senior officials for involvement in cases investigated by the COI’s investigation directorates and offices in Baghdad and other governorates.

The statement explained that the 90 arrest warrants include 79 arrest warrants issued for senior officials. It added that the 90 are divided into 19 arrest warrants and 71 summons.

The statement indicated that the officials include four MPs in the current parliament, five former MPs, four former ministers, in addition to two current undersecretaries, and three former undersecretaries.

The officials involved also include three current governors, 14 former governors, 10 current general directors, 27 former general directors, as well as seven former members of governorate councils.

Last October, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, vowed to tackle endemic corruption in the country. “We will not allow Iraqis’ money to be robbed,” he said via Twitter.
