Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced the resumption of direct flights between Iraq, Germany and Denmark.

The Iraqi Transport Minister, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, mentioned in a statement that he held several meetings with high-level European officials, where he proposed the operation of direct flights between the capital, Baghdad, and European cities, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

“There will be seven weekly flights to Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Munich, starting from November 10,” Al-Saadawi explained.

The statement elaborated that the resumption of flights to these European destinations will serve the Iraqi community in Europe and open new horizons of cooperation between Iraq and those countries.

The step reflects the ongoing efforts of the Transport Ministry and Iraqi Airways to lift the European ban imposed on Iraqi Airways.

Iraqi Airways announced in late September the resumption of direct flights between Baghdad and the Russian capital, Moscow.

The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) confirmed last July that committing to international standards will help lift the ban imposed by the European Union (EU) on Iraqi Airways, INA reported.

The president of the authority, Imad Al-Asadi, met in July with a delegation from the EU at Baghdad International Airport, where both sides discussed work mechanisms and possible coordination to develop the civil aviation sector in Iraq.

The ICAA President indicated at that time the authority’s commitment to international standards and that its continuous communication with EU officials will contribute to lifting the European ban imposed on Iraqi Airways.

Iraqi Airways had signed a contract with Boeing to purchase 26 planes, including 10 787 Dreamliners.

Iraqi Airways started receiving the planes ordered from the aircraft industry company to profitably develop its network and connect Iraq to more international destinations.

Iraq’s national carrier is working on developing its fleet because, according to reports, air traffic in the Middle East is witnessing a more than 40 percent increase compared to 2022.
