Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – A US military official said that US forces shot down an attack drone near the Ain Al-Asad base, where they are deployed in western Iraq.

The US military official told AFP that US forces shot down a single-use attack drone a few kilometers from the Ain Al-Asad air base in Iraq.

A faction called ‘Islamic Resistance in Iraq,’ which previously claimed responsibility for several recent attacks on US and allied forces in Iraq and Syria, announced that it targeted the base with a drone.

The attempted drone attack took place after the United States struck two military facilities in eastern Syria used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and other affiliated groups, which Washington accuses of being behind the increasing attacks targeting US forces in the region.

The US official also mentioned that an attack using several missiles took place on Thursday against US and coalition forces in Syria.

The official explained that no casualties or damages have been reported.

US forces in the Middle East are facing increasing attacks because of the war between Israel and Hamas, as Israel’s retaliatory bombing in Gaza has killed around 8,000 people, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.

The United States has about 900 soldiers in Syria and 2,500 soldiers in Iraq.
