Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Prime Minister’s press office announced on Thursday that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Ministry of Electricity and General Electric.

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, confirmed the government’s seriousness in supporting the energy sector, according to the press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.

The MoU signed with General Electric is part of the government’s program aiming to develop the electricity sector in Iraq, the statement mentioned.

The MoU will contribute to developing the electrical system in terms of production efficiency, transmission, maintenance, staff training, and the reduction of carbon emissions to support the energy transition in Iraq.

Al-Sudani emphasized the government’s commitment to fully support the Ministry of Electricity in order to increase the electrical production and maintain power plants, in a way that contributes to addressing the electricity problem and alleviating the suffering of citizens.

According to the MoU, long-term maintenance works will be contracted for a period of five years, to sustain the work of the energy production units equipped by General Electric.

Additionally, the work efficiency of the energy production units currently operating will be increased, and new stations to produce electric power will be built.
