Foreign Ministry to transfer dead bodies of two Iraqis in Eastern Europe
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Iraqi embassy in Moscow is coordinating the transfer of the bodies of two Iraqis who froze to death on the Belarusian borders, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, mentioned in a statement that the Iraqi embassy in Moscow is deeply concerned about the death of two Iraqi citizens on the border between Belarus and Poland.
Al-Sahhaf elaborated that the death was caused by exposure to low temperatures to the point of complete freezing.
Al-Sahhaf added that the embassy formed a crisis cell to facilitate the transfer of the two dead bodies to Iraq, and to continue coordination with their families.
The State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus announced on November 19 that Belarusian patrol agents discovered an Iraqi national’s body on the border with Poland.
On the Belarusian-Polish border, a body of a man without warm outdoor clothing was found on November 19, by a border patrol. The corpse was located not far from the gate in the Polish barrier, the statement of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus mentioned.
The statement also elaborated that the nature of the marks left at the border indicates that the body was moved from Poland to Belarus, and documents of an Iraqi citizen were found with the deceased.
