Former Iraqi official sentenced to 10 years in prison for corruption

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Federal Commission of Integrity revealed on Sunday details of a court ruling against former governor of Salah Al-Din governorate, Ammar Al-Jabouri, who is sentenced to 10 years in prison and is fined 10 million Iraqi dinars (approximately 6,900 USD), according to a statement reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The statement elaborated that this court ruling was issued because Al- Jabouri received nearly seven billion Iraqi dinars (more than 4.8 million USD) as bribes to refer projects to certain companies.
The statement also clarified that Salah Al-Din former governor received 4.6 billion Iraqi dinars and 1.5 million USD from these companies, as well as a request for Range Rover and Lexus cars.
The statement indicated that Al-Jabouri received the aforementioned amounts against referring the projects implemented in the governorate to certain companies through direct requests, and paying the financial dues to these companies.
The court looked into the evidences provided in this case and found it sufficient and convincing to convict Al- Jabouri.
The Federal Commission of Integrity announced earlier the issuance of an arrest warrant against Al- Jabouri as he was accused of blackmailing a contractor and taking money and cars from him.
