Former Iraqi PM to be interrogated by Iraqi Prosecution for Soleimani’s assassination

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Public Prosecutor announced on Sunday that former Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, will be interrogated for the assassination of the Iranian Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, and chief of staff of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, Baghdad Today reported.
Al-Kadhimi’s interrogation is part of a lawsuit filed by the head of Rights Movement, Hussein Monis, against Al-Kadhimi as he was the former head of the intelligence service in Iraq.
The former Iraqi Prime Minister is charged of remissness that resulted in the killing of Soleimani and his companions, Baghdad Today mentioned.
In June 2022, the Iranian judiciary revealed the countries participated in the assassination of Soleimani, stressing the need to prosecute these countries.
The Vice-President of the Judiciary for International Affairs and the Secretary-General of the High Council for Human Rights of Iran, Kazem Gharibabadi, said that people have been identified in Britain, the United States, Germany, Jordan and other countries, referring to Soleimani’s active role in eliminating ISIS terrorists in Iraq and Syria Fars News Agency reported.
The spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani, stated that Iran is closely following the case of Soleimani’s assassination, accusing the US administration of the assassination, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
Kanaani added that the United States adopted the assassination of Soleimani, and we Iran will follow all legal means to prosecute the criminals who committed this crime.
The US army carried out a military operation in which Soleimani was assassinated near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
The operation, in which Al-Muhandis was also assassinated, led to an escalation of tension between the United States and Iran, which vowed strong revenge. The Iranian army, a few days following the operation, responded by firing missiles at Ain Al-Assad base, the largest US base in Iraq.
