France’s Emmanuel Macron to visit Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and the Advisor to the French President on North Africa and the Middle East, Patrick Durel, discussed on Wednesday the upcoming visit of the French President, Emmanuel Macron, to Iraq.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral ties between Iraq and France in accordance with the broad strategic agreement signed between the two countries, particularly in areas related to investment, economy, energy and environment, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Durel offered his condolences to the government and people of Iraq for the deaths of more than one hundred Iraqis in the fire that broke out at a wedding party in northern Iraq last week.
In late August, Al-Sudani and Macron discussed in a phone call the preparations for the Baghdad Conference 2023, which will be held in the Iraqi capital.
The two leaders also talked about contracts to purchase radar systems from the French company Thales, which will enable Iraq to tighten its control over Iraqi airspace and preserve the country’s sovereignty.
