Ghost of Fallujah chases Joe Biden
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The U.S. President, Joe Biden, had a slip of the tongue when he mistakenly said that the Russian troops are pulling out of ‘Fallujah’ instead of ‘Kherson’ during a press conference at the White House on Wednesday.
“I think the context is that whether or not they’re pulling back from Fallujah – from the city of Kherson – and are coming back across the river to the eastern side of the river,” Biden said during the press conference.
Biden only remembered the correct name of the city he was talking about after a correction from the journalist.
Biden’s statement took place after the Russian Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, announced that the Russian forces would retreat from the western bank of the Dnieper River to reposition to the eastern bank.
In November and December of 2004, Fallujah witnessed the bloodiest conflict the American forces had fought since the Vietnam War and is widely remembered as a key moment in the US invasion of Iraq, New York Post mentioned.
Fallujah battles included the execution of four members of the American private security company ‘Blackwater’ in March 2004, which caused what is known as the ‘first battle of Fallujah’ that ended with the defeat of the American forces.
The Pentagon mentioned that approximately 12,000 US troops fought in the battle, 82 of whom were killed, while about another 600 were wounded, according to New York Post.
