Interfaith Dialogue delegation visits the ancient city of Ur
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – A visit was organized on Wednesday for the delegation of the Conference on Interfaith Dialogue between Iraq and the Vatican City to the ancient city of Ur in the southern Iraqi governorate of Dhi Qar, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit was organized by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the three Religious Endowments offices and Dhi Qar governorate.
The visiting delegation was received by the Deputy Governor of Dhi Qar, Rafe’ Al-Shami, and officials in the governorate, the statement mentioned.
Participants in the event delivered speeches in which they emphasized the importance of spreading the spirit of tolerance and coexistence between the divinely-revealed religions and the different sects, the statement elaborated.
The speakers also called for staying away from hatred and violence and emphasized peaceful coexistence among people, the statement explained.
The attendees recalled the historic visit made by His Holiness Pope Francis to the city of Ur, which is the home of Prophet Abraham, and his prayers and supplications for the security, safety and prosperity of Iraq, the statement clarified.
The delegation visited the historical sites in the city of Ur, including the shrine of the Prophet Abraham, the statement added.
