Iranian FM arrives in Baghdad for a two-day official visit
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday, for a two-day visit to discuss the Iranian-Iraqi relations and the stability of the region, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
The spokesperson of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, mentioned in a statement that Abdullahian will visit Baghdad for two days, where he will meet with the Iraqi president, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Iraqi National Security Adviser, and the Foreign Minister.
Al-Sahaf emphasized that the visit will address the bilateral relations, and ways to boost dialogue to strengthen aspects of joint cooperation, in a way that enhances the security and stability of the region, and serves the interests of the people of the two neighboring countries.
Earlier in February, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, visited Baghdad where he reviewed the resumption of the Saudi-Iranian negotiations under the auspices of the Iraqi government.
Over the past two years, Iraq hosted several rounds of dialogue between Iran and Saudi Arabia, in an effort to resume relations between the two countries.
Saudi Arabia severed its relations with Iran in January 2016, after its embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad were attacked by protesters following Riyadh’s execution of the opposition Shiite cleric, Nimr Al-Nimr.
