Iraq agrees with Turkey, Iran to hold meeting on water issue

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources announced on Sunday it agreed with the Turkish and Iranian sides to hold a technical meeting imminently to discuss the water issue, the state news agency (INA) reported.
“Both sides interacted with Iraq’s requests calling for going towards permanent agreements and canceling the previous temporary agreements,” the Administrative Undersecretary in the Ministry of Water Resources, Raed Al-Jashami, told INA.
“The meetings between the delegations of both countries paved the way for an agreement to hold this meeting,” Al-Jashami clarified.
The Iraqi official emphasized that Iraq informed the countries about the need to reach permanent agreements because circumstances are currently different.
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, held talks a day ago with the Iranian Energy Minister, Ali Akbar Mehrabian, regarding electricity and water scarcity issues.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office mentioned that Iraq is continuing economic cooperation with the countries of the region.
Al-Sudani confirmed that Iraq is continuing regional economic cooperation in the energy sector and in developing plans to confront climate change and its environmental and economic effects, the statement added.
