Iraq and Iran agree to develop joint oilfields

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced on Wednesday that Baghdad and Tehran had agreed to form a committee specializing in developing the joint oilfields.
The step comes within the framework of strengthening and expanding cooperation opportunities, the state news agency (INA) reported.
The Iraqi Oil Ministry mentioned in a statement that the agreement took place during a meeting between the Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, and his Iranian counterpart, Javad Owji.
The two sides agreed to form specialized committees, including a committee tasked with developing joint oil and gas fields in accordance with international norms to guarantee the rights of each party and a joint committee responsible for the utilization of natural gas, petrochemical industries, and renewable energy, in addition to a third committee tasked with rehabilitating and developing oil refineries.
Abdul-Ghani explained that cooperation will also take place in areas such as oil marketing, pipelines, and exploration.
The Iraqi Oil Minister, accompanied by a delegation of senior officials in the oil sector, arrived in Iran on Tuesday on an official visit to meet with officials in the Iranian government and the Petroleum Ministry.
