Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the decision made by Norway, Spain, and Ireland to recognize the independent state of Palestine.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the decision is an important step towards restoring Palestinian rights.

Additionally, Iraq’s Foreign Ministry called on all countries to help the Palestinian people in their quest for independence and to advance toward acknowledging the State of Palestine and their legal rights.

Iraq also confirmed that stability in the region will only be achieved by establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Plans to formally recognize a Palestinian state are being made by Ireland, Spain, and Norway for next week.

This development is expected to strengthen the Palestinian cause internationally but further weaken ties between Europe and Israel.

The three European countries argue that their step is the greatest means of achieving enduring peace in the Middle East, but Israel swiftly condemned it, ordering the immediate withdrawal of its ambassadors from those European countries.

Around 140 countries out of the 193 member nations of the UN have already acknowledged Palestine as a state.

At a news conference in Dublin on Wednesday, the Irish Prime Minister, Simon Harris, said that Ireland, Norway, and Spain are announcing their recognition of the state of Palestine.

The Irish Foreign Minister, Micheal Martin, said that the recognition will take effect in each of the three nations on May 28.
