Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the decision will lead to a permanent ceasefire and the release of all hostages, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The Iraqi ministry reiterated its appeals to the international community to take responsibility for putting an end to the Israeli strikes on civilians in Gaza and stressed the need to ensure that humanitarian supplies are provided to residents in the Gaza Strip.

The UN Security Council passed a resolution on Monday urging a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

After the US draft resolution was rejected on Friday, eight of the ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council worked on a new draft resolution that was supposed to be presented to a vote on Saturday. However, the vote was postponed to Monday in an attempt to prevent another setback.

The new draft resolution urges an immediate humanitarian ceasefire for the month of Ramadan and leads to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, where more than 32,000 Palestinians were killed.
