 Iraq, Azerbaijan discuss cooperation in the oil sector

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, and the Azerbaijani Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, discussed on Monday ways to improve their bilateral ties and foster collaboration between the two countries.

In a statement, the Iraqi Oil Ministry said that Jabbarov, Abdul-Ghani, Rovshan Najaf, President of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), and other officials from both countries had met to discuss how to improve bilateral ties and increase cooperation in the oil and energy industry, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The Azerbaijani team was given a briefing by the Iraqi Oil Minister about the government’s and the Oil Ministry’s objectives to advance the oil industry and encourage investments in the gas sector through oil and gas bidding rounds.

Abdul-Ghani also welcomed the participation of Azerbaijani businesses in the Oil Ministry’s initiatives and investment opportunities in Iraq’s oil and gas sector.

Jabbarov expressed his country’s eagerness to have Azerbaijani oil companies carry out joint projects in the oil and gas sectors in Iraq to enhance cooperation opportunities between the two countries.
