Iraq, Belgium hold political consultations
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq and Belgium held on Monday the third round of their political consultations in the Belgian capital, Brussels, and stressed the need to activate the agreements signed between the two countries, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, mentioned in a statement that Iraqi and Belgian officials discussed issues of common interest and exchanged views regarding the development of relations between Iraq and Belgium.
The meeting also addressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in political, economic, and security areas, according to the statement.
Both sides talked about Iraq’s relationship with the European Union (EU), the support provided to Iraq, and the cooperation related to human rights through international and regional missions in Iraq.
The Belgian side praised Iraq’s important role in easing tensions in the region, especially its role in Saudi-Iranian reconciliation and Iraqi-Egyptian-Jordanian tripartite cooperation.
Al-Sahaf clarified that the two sides also discussed regional and international issues, including the relationship with Turkey and Iran, the consequences of the war in Ukraine, and its effects on international stability and food security.
