Iraq, Britain promote security cooperation
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, approved on Monday the declaration of intent that will be signed between the Iraqi and British ministries of interior.
Al-Sudani’s remarks took place during his meeting with the British Minister of State for Security, Tom Tugendhat, and his accompanying delegation.
The meeting addressed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance security cooperation to fight terrorism and combat corruption.
The Iraqi Prime Minister commended the UK’s support for Iraq in the war against the ISIS group, highlighting the importance of cooperation with the British side in combating cross-border crimes such as smuggling, human trafficking, drugs, and the extradition of criminals involved in corruption cases.
Al-Sudani stressed that the government had prepared a national strategy to combat human trafficking in Iraq as well as a national strategy for combating drugs.
Tugendhat expressed Britain’s readiness to support the Iraqi security forces and provide them with modern technologies, praising the efforts of the Iraqi security services in combating terrorism and eliminating the terrorist group ISIS and their role in the stability of Iraq.
