Iraq, Czech Republic discuss lifting EU ban on Iraqi Airways
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The spokesperson of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, confirmed on Wednesday that Iraq and the Czech Republic held discussions on five issues.
A statement released by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry explained that the undersecretaries of the foreign ministries of both countries talked about the political developments in Iraq, the security situation, economic cooperation, and ways to encourage Czech companies to invest in Iraq, especially in the oil, gas, water, and health sectors.
The two sides discussed the importance of lifting the ban on Iraqi Airways as well as Iraq’s role in enhancing the stability of the region.
The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) confirmed last July that committing to international standards will help lift the ban imposed by the European Union (EU) on Iraqi Airways, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The president of the authority, Imad Al-Asadi, met in July with a delegation from the EU at Baghdad International Airport, where both sides discussed work mechanisms and possible coordination to develop the civil aviation sector in Iraq.
The ICAA President indicated at that time the authority’s commitment to international standards and that its continuous communication with EU officials will contribute to lifting the European ban imposed on Iraqi Airways.
