Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday the total number of citizens evacuated from Sudan since the outbreak of confrontations, according to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Al-Sahaf.

Al-Sahaf explained that 269 people have been evacuated from Sudan so far, including 16 Syrian citizens, and the majority are Iraqis.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced earlier the evacuation of many Iraqi citizens in Sudan following instructions issued by Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, due to the bloody clashes taking place in several Sudanese cities.

The continuous battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces prompted many countries to increase their efforts to evacuate their nationals or members of diplomatic missions, by land, sea, and air.

Hundreds of people were killed, and thousands were injured, including aid workers, in the battles that started on April 15 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, according to reports issued by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The conflict in Sudan also prompted tens of thousands to flee from the areas of clashes towards other Sudanese provinces, or towards Chad and Egypt.
