Iraq, France review preparations for Baghdad Conference
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed on Thursday the preparations for the third edition of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership with the French Ambassador to Iraq, Eric Chevalier.
Hussein and Chevalier discussed several topics of common interest and ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, including the third edition of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
The conference focuses on partnership, economic integration, regional and international challenges, and Iraq’s role in establishing security and stability in the region.
The meeting also addressed the coordination between Iraq and France regarding regional and international issues that will be discussed in the upcoming meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be held in September.
The French President, Emmanuel Macron, said in late August that the third edition of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, which was held for the first time in the Iraqi capital in August 2021 and then in Jordan in December 2022, will be held in Baghdad next November.
Macron elaborated that the conference aims to unify a regional agenda to support the sovereignty of Iraq, as the conference aims to bring together all the countries neighboring Iraq.
The second edition of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership was held in Jordan in December 2022, where the participants stressed the need to support Iraq in facing all challenges, including terrorism, in addition to Baghdad’s efforts to achieve economic development.
The final statement of the conference emphasized that economic development and regional cooperation projects require constructive regional relations based on the principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in domestic affairs.
The participants emphasized the importance of the tripartite cooperation mechanism between Iraq, Jordan and Egypt, as well as the economic projects agreed upon in its context, including electrical interconnection projects between the three countries.
