Iraq, GCC discuss electrical interconnection
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, met on Monday with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Muhammad Al-Budaiwi, to discuss ways to promote cooperation between the two parties, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
In a joint press conference held in Baghdad, Hussein confirmed that Iraq is open to Gulf companies’ investments, while Al-Budaiwi indicated that the electrical interconnection project with Iraq is ambitious.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister explained that Iraq’s foreign policy is based on strengthening relations, stressing that the relations between Iraq and the GCC countries are strong.
Hussein clarified that the electrical interconnection project with the Gulf States was the main topic of the discussions.
The Iraqi minister explained that his government is working to diversify the economy and has a clear plan to recover flared gas, indicating that he discussed with Al-Budaiwi the Iraqi-Gulf forum, which will be held in Sharjah.
The Secretary-General of the GCC emphasized that the GCC is working to ensure the security and prosperity of Iraq and to strengthen relations.
“We need to move forward in strengthening relations between Iraq and the Gulf countries,” Al-Budaiwi stated during the joint press conference.
Al-Budaiwi added that there are plans to link the Iraqi economy with the Gulf economy, noting that Iraq plays a major role in managing regional and international issues.
