Iraq, Iran sign joint security document
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council in Iran, Ali Shamkhani, arrived in Iraq on Sunday where he signed a security agreement between the two countries.
During his meeting with the Iraqi National Security Advisor, Qassim Al-Araji, Shamkhani said this agreement will lead to a comprehensive development of relations.
“With the full implementation of the security agreement between Iran and Iraq, the relations will move quicker towards comprehensive development,” Shamkhani stated.
“There is no doubt that the agreement between the two countries to remove the security challenges imposed on Iranian-Iraqi relations and this will serve the interests both countries,” Al-Araji mentioned.
“Baghdad will not allow any group or country to use its territories to create a state of insecurity in Iran,” Al-Araji added.
Tasnim News Agency reported earlier on Sunday that Tehran would sign a joint security cooperation document with Iraq during the visit of Shamkhani to Baghdad.
The document was being discussed for several months by senior security officials in the two countries, Tasnim News Agency added.
Shamkhani is also expected to hold discussions addressing several common security and economic issues between the two countries.
The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) mentioned on Saturday that Shamkhani will hold talks on promoting trade exchange, facilitating banking cooperation, resolving security challenges hindering the development of the relations between the two countries, and accelerating the implementation of economic agreements.
Iraq is the third stop on Shamkhani’s tour after his visit to China and the UAE.
In China, Shamkhani led his country’s talks with Saudi Arabia, which led, last Friday, to the announcement of the agreement on restoring the relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
