Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi forces launched on Thursday the eighth phase of Operation Solid Will to pursue remnants of ISIS terrorist group in Nineveh governorate and its borders, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Security Media Cell (ISMC).

“Under the supervision of the Joint Operations Command and the Ground Forces Command, in accordance with accurate intelligence information, the eighth phase of Operation Solid Will was launched on Thursday in Nineveh governorate and its western borders,” the statement mentioned.

The ISMC indicated that this operation aims to pursue terrorists, eliminate remnants of ISIS group and destroy their hideouts.

The Solid Will is a series of military operations launched by the Iraqi forces late last year with the aim of pursuing terrorists belonging to ISIS groups.

The previous phases of the large-scale military operation resulted in arresting and killing dozens of ISIS terrorists including top leaders.

In September 22, the spokesperson for the Joint Operations Command in Iraq, Major General Tahsin Al-Khafaji, explained that ISIS terrorists in Iraq are less than one thousand, most of whom are locals, and they are spread in four or five areas.

In December 2017, Iraq announced it eliminated ISIS terrorists and imposed full control over all Iraqi territories, including the border with Syria, but some hiding ISIS terrorists are still active in some areas of the country.
