Iraq receives 75 new requests from citizens in Sudan

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The spokesperson of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, revealed on Monday that the ministry received 75 requests from Iraqis in Sudan to be evacuated from the unstable security situation in the country.
“We are still receiving requests from the remaining members of our community in Sudan, 75 new evacuation requests so far,” Al-Sahaf said in a statement.
The Iraqi official stated that 288 Iraqis in Sudan have been evacuated so far, including 16 Syrians.
The Iraqi authorities, during the past few days, evacuated Iraqi nationals and some Arab nationals from Sudan, through Arab countries or direct flights to Baghdad, after violence and fighting escalated in Sudan.
An armed conflict has been ongoing in Sudan between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 15.
The continuous battles between the two conflicting parties in Sudan prompted many countries to increase their efforts to evacuate their nationals or members of diplomatic missions, by land, sea, and air.
Hundreds of people were killed, and thousands were injured, including aid workers, in the battles in Sudan, according to reports issued by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The conflict in Sudan also prompted tens of thousands to flee from the areas of clashes towards other Sudanese provinces, or towards Chad and Egypt.
