Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, confirmed on Monday that Iraq has made great strides in clean energy projects and chemical industries through the utilization of associated gas.

During his speech at the 12th Arab Energy Conference, Abdul-Ghani said that the Iraqi government made important decisions to maximize the use of clean energy, indicating the deal reached with TotalEnergies to utilize 600 million cubic feet of associated gas in five oilfields and the development of a 1-gigawatt solar power plant to supply southern Iraq with electricity, according to a statement cited by the state news agency.

The Iraqi Oil Minister emphasized Iraq’s commitment to the Paris Agreement and the success the government achieved in reducing thermal emissions by two percent thanks to projects launched at the end of 2022.

Abdul-Ghani illustrated that a similar project will be launched in 2024 and is expected to reduce thermal emissions by another two percent.

The Minister of Oil called for participation in the fifth and sixth bidding rounds expected to utilize 3,000 cubic meters of gas to support the electricity sector.
