Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, revealed on Saturday that a secret mediation is underway between Arab countries and Iran but refused to reveal the names of these Arab countries.

Iraq is mediating between Iran and several Arab countries, but Al-Sudani will not reveal the details of this mediation and the names of the countries until results are achieved because this issue is completely secret, according to Fars News Agency.

The statements of the Iraqi Prime Minister took place during a meeting in the capital, Baghdad, with journalists and media professionals representing various media outlets in Iran.

Circulated news revealed that Baghdad is attempting to mediate between Iran and several Arab countries, most notably Jordan, Bahrain, and Egypt, after Iraq succeeded in hosting several rounds of negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia before both sides signed an agreement to restore relations in Beijing.

Iraqi media outlets recently revealed that Iraqi and Omani mediation is currently in progress to restore relations between Egypt and Iran.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed earlier that Iran welcomes any positive developments that would promote relations between the people of Iran and Egypt, denying the imposition of any travel restrictions on Egyptians travelling to Iran.

Relations between Cairo and Tehran became tense following the success of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, as the leader of the revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini, decided to sever diplomatic relations with Egypt in response to Egypt’s Camp David Accords with Israel.

The disagreement between the two countries deepened following the decision of the late Egyptian President, Mohamed Anwar Sadat, in February 1980, to host the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
