Iraq sends nearly 500 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, announced on Tuesday that nearly 500 tons of Iraqi humanitarian aid had been sent to warehouses in Jordan.
Rasoul said in a statement that the support convoy for the people of Gaza, which was sent by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense based on the decision issued by the Iraqi Council of Ministers in late February, has arrived, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The Iraqi official revealed that the convoy included 482 tons of flour and other foodstuffs, adding that it was delivered to warehouses in Jordan in the presence of the representative of the Jordan Hashemite charity organization and the representative of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
In January, Rasoul announced that the eighth batch of humanitarian aid had been dispatched to the Palestinians in Gaza, clarifying that two airplanes loaded with 25 tons of food had arrived at El-Arish International Airport.
The humanitarian aid was dispatched, under the supervision of the Iraqi Red Crescent, to the Egyptian Red Crescent in the Egyptian city of El-Arish to be delivered to the Palestinian people in Gaza.
The Iraqi government’s spokesperson, Basem Al-Awadi, said in October that the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, had given orders to send humanitarian aid to the people in Gaza via the Rafah border crossing.
