Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the suspension of the consular work of its embassy in Ukraine because of the military escalation in the country.

A statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry explained that the consular work has been temporarily suspended to preserve the lives of the Iraqi community in Ukraine, the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) mentioned.

Earlier on Friday, the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said that the results of the NATO meeting at Ramstein base, where it was decided to supply Ukraine with weapons, again indicate the West’s irresponsibility and the desire to escalate the conflict.

“The outcomes of this meeting certainly indicate the totally irresponsible behavior of the West and the desire to fuel the conflict,” Zakharova stated.

“They do not care about the fate of anyone on the Ukrainian territories. It is now clear that they also do not care about the fate of their fellow countrymen,” Zakharova added.

On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine in a major escalation of the tension between the two countries that began in 2014. The invasion caused tens of thousands of deaths on both sides and Europe’s largest refugee crisis since World War II.
