Iraq to complete Al-Faw Grand Port by 2025
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, stated on Monday that the Al-Faw Grad Port in southern Iraq will be completed by 2025.
Al-Sudani told journalists that the government is planning to set up an industrial city, which will be the biggest in the Middle East, as part of the Al-Faw port project.
The Iraqi Prime Minister elaborated that he follows the completion rates at Al-Faw Grand Port on a weekly basis, saying that the Al-Faw Grand Port and the Development Road projects will diversify the Iraqi economy.
Al-Sudani indicated that 73 percent of the construction work on the five berths in the port has been completed, which is faster than planned.
The Iraqi Prime Minister clarified that the government will soon invite countries that have expressed their desire to participate in the Development Road to hold a meeting in Baghdad.
The port will include 99 berths, which makes it the largest port in West Asia, surpassing the Jebel Ali Port in the UAE, which includes only 67 berths for containers.
The container terminal is part of the first phase of the Al-Faw Grand Port, which is being constructed by Daewoo E&C, according to Maritime Gateway News.
The Al-Faw Grand Port is located on the Khor Abdallah Channel, near the mouth of Shatt Al-Arab.
