Iraq to complete requirements to join WTO
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Trade detailed its plan to complete the requirements to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), according to a press statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The committee concerned with Iraq’s accession to the World Trade Organization, headed by the Minister of Trade and with the membership of representatives of ministries and agencies, in addition to representatives from the private sector, is working to have the requirements for Iraq’s accession to the organization completed, a statement of the Ministry of Trade’s press office mentioned.
The statement explained that the ministry’s plan during 2023 includes completing technical accession files in terms of goods, services and intellectual property, in addition to coordinating legislations and laws with the agreements of the multilateral organization.
The statement also indicated that the plan includes holding official meetings in the WTO’s headquarters in Geneva, and coordinating with the member states to mobilize support and speed up accession procedures, to make Iraq an active member and partner in economic decisions and trade policies which enhance the integration of Iraq in the global economy.
The statement added that the Iraqi Minister of Trade confirmed that the plan includes preparing the Iraqi negotiating team, which will engage in negotiations with the member states of the WTO, through strengthening their negotiating capabilities and help them benefit from the experiences of other countries.
