Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq’s football team is scheduled to play against its Indian counterpart on Thursday in the 49th King’s Cup, an international football tournament hosted annually in Thailand.

Since its inception in 1968, the tournament has consistently showcased top-notch football talent from around the world.

A decent turnout is expected at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in the city of Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Lions of Mesopotamia will face the Indian team for the first time in 12 years, as the two teams played their last match in 2010.

The Iraqi team won five out of six matches the two teams played on different occasions in their entire history. Only one match ended in a 1-1 tie.

The teams participating in the 2023 King’s Cup are Thailand, Iraq, India, and Lebanon.

The Spanish coach of the Iraqi national team, Jesus Casas, said in a press conference on Wednesday that the goal of participating in the tournament, which he considered important, is to face teams from Asia that are different from the teams of Russia and Colombia.

Casas added that it is also important to know the level of the players when they come into contact with teams from the same continent.
