Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Rumaila Operating Organization (ROO) announced on Tuesday that the production capacity in the oil field will rise to 1.4 million barrels by the end of 2023.

The director of the ROO, Imad Hassan, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the current production capacity of the Rumaila field is 1.3 million barrels per day, adding that this capacity will rise to 1.4 million barrels by the end of 2023.

The oilfield is the second-largest in the world in terms of production. The oilfield is 1,600 square kilometers, extending 80 kilometers in length and 20 kilometers in width.

The ROO is an umbrella entity that includes field operator BP, PetroChina, and the state-run Basra Oil Company (BOC).

The oil produced from the Rumaila oilfield represents about one-third of Iraq’s total production.

With more than a billion barrels of recoverable oil, the Rumaila oilfield belongs to the so-called class of super-giant oilfields.

The total reserves of Rumaila are now estimated to be 17 billion barrels.
