Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced on Wednesday the development of a mobile phone application for electronic ticket booking.

The Director General of the Transport Ministry’s Administrative and Financial Department, Ahmed Khalaf, explained that he met with representatives of different organizations, including Iraqi Airways, to discuss the development of a mobile application for booking train and airline tickets, Shafaq News reported.

50 percent of the mobile application was completed, according to Khalaf.

The Iraqi official stated that the discussion included money transfers and payment methods for the mobile application and that more meetings would be conducted to expedite the development of the new software so that its services become available to the public.

Iraqi Airways is building and updating its fleet to accommodate the expected rise in international business and leisure travel to and from the country. Currently, the airline operates flights to more than 50 destinations.

The President of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA), Imad Al-Asadi, met in July with a delegation from the European Union (EU) at Baghdad International Airport to discuss work mechanisms and possible coordination to develop the civil aviation sector in Iraq.
