Iraq to participate in meeting in Jordan on Syria’s return to Arab League
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Amman will host a meeting that includes the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, and Syria, on Monday.
A statement issued by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Amman will host on Monday a meeting that will be attended by the foreign ministers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, and Syria.
The meeting is a continuation of the consultative meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt, which was hosted by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah on April 14, the statement mentioned.
This meeting is based on the communications these countries made with the Syrian government and the Jordanian initiative to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, the statement added.
The spokesperson of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, confirmed on April 12 that Iraq still supports Syria’s return to the Arab League.
“Iraq is still supporting Syria’s return to its seat in the Arab League… the integration of the Arab house is positively reflected on its parties,” Al-Sahaf said.
A day earlier, the GCC called for a meeting to discuss the possibility of Syria’s return to the Arab League.
On April 13, The Iraqi Foreign Ministry welcomed a joint Syrian-Saudi statement issued at the end of the visit of the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal Al-Miqdad, to Saudi Arabia.
